Corvettes of Clarksville visits the National Corvette Museum
and Rat Fink in Bowling Green, KY!
On a crisp February day in 2020 some of the Corvettes of Clarksville members
and guest, Jeff C. drove Corvette worthy back roads to the NCM in Bowling
Green, KY. We wanted to visit the Ed “Big Daddy” Roth exhibit of the wild
manifestations of the Roth’s imagination! Big Daddy was the focal point of street
racing counter culture in the world. He was an entrepreneur specializing in
custom car prototypes, monsters and plastic model kits. Many tee shirts, apparel
and toys of all sorts features the famous Rat Fink mascot of car loving street
racers in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Rat Fink was Roth’s wild answer to the “other”
cartoon mouse, _ickey _ouse.
After photo shooting our cars in the museum’s back lot, we drove to the local
Rafferty’s restaurant and had lunch. The next-door tables hosted the Vets in
Vettes Corvette Club that we met while inside the NCM. It was great fun to join
and sing “Happy Birthday” to a Vet in Vettes member and “raise the roof” of the
Restaurant with our congratulatory applause!
All in all, we had a wonderful outing and those Corvettes of Clarksville Members that decided to stay at home really missed out on a fun outing!
Saturday, February 8th, was a beautiful day to drive our Corvettes to Clarksville’s
Own Old Chicago Pizza. While waiting for our long, long table to be set up, we went
outside and kicked some tires on the Corvettes and told long, long tales of how fast our cars are! The restaurant was full of people, but they accommodated eighteen Corvettes of Clarksville members and their appetites. Three new members joined us and were warmly welcomed! All in all, a nice time was had by all. The cars appreciated getting out of the garages and enjoyed being exercised to get the cobwebs out of the mass airflow sensors.
